This is a drabble based on chapters 2-3 of Requiem for the Sinners, written by Clever Young Thief. Sort of a fanfic-fanfic. drabble. thing. ^_^

Duo watched him leave, his heart sinking. He loved Heero, he really did. But he loved the people of L2, as well, and he couldn't leave them to suffer just to soothe the wounded pride of politicians. That was his first, and oldest allegiance. He just hoped Heero could understand that. Please, don't make me choose...

The first shots rang out, and Duo watched as Heero responded in the only way he could. Dammit, he thought, fighting down feelings of betrayal. He should have known that Heero would choose this way. His mission was to protect Relena and her peace, that was his duty, and that was his first allegiance. It had been inevitable from the start that they would end up on opposite sides of this. He raised his gun, making his way over to Heero, to stop him. To kill him, and kill his heart with it...but there was no turning back now.

He could almost hear an echo of his earlier thoughts, in Heero's voice. Please, don't ask me to choose....

But he hadn't had a choice, there had never been a choice. He took aim and fired, a shot through the heart. The end of everything. The beginning of hell. I'm sorry...I'm so sorry it has to be this way...

It further hardened his resolve. One more thing the bastards had to pay for.
